Rabies is a fatal disease and is passed on from one animal to another and to humans, Rabies is mainly passed on through a bite but there has been some cases where humans have been infected with rabies while being in bat caves and they have breathed in the air, but that is very rare. Rabies is usually passed through infected saliva.
The disease affects your brain and the nervous system, but it takes up to a couple days to weeks before it becomes noticeable. But by the time the symptoms start to show up then its already very unlikely to survive the disease.
